No safe/archive available when trying to manually archive

This issue has been solved. See solution.
OK, I need help.
We had to reboot the Enterprise Vault server because of a hanging service.
After the reboot the EV server came up nicely, no error messages nothing !
But................. now when I try to manually archive an email, my popup shows up with the safe name and retention category, but I cannot select a safe name.
HELPPPPPP.
Can someone give me a hint what to do ?

Sorry for the Dutch interface, but as you can see in the top part, the SAFE: is empty.
I have this with most users.

can you make sure that your vault store partitions are open, that the storage service is started and that your archives are online and not offline
what happens if you go to http://yourEVServer/EnterpriseVault/archiveexplore...
is the archive/safe list blank there as well?
Just tried that. I am getting

You could close outlook, synch your mailbox, re-open outlook and try again.

Another thing
If I open http://myEVServer/EnterpriseVault and I select Search I get the message:
(it's in Dutch, but it refers to that I have no access)
ok well first thing dude,
ok well first thing dude, open a case with symc, its going to be something ridiculous
probably something like permissions
so here's what i'd do
1. Open the Vault Admin console
2. Expand out Archives -> Exchange Mailboxes
3. Find an archive you have access to (i.e. your own)
4. Go to the properties and then the permissions tab
5. Are the correct permissions listed?
Try synchronizing your user manually and choose folder hierarchy and permissions
Done, all set correctly,
Done, all set correctly, synchronizing started but no luck.
I restored an already archived item by the way, which works fine, but re-archiving the email or another email doesn't show an accessible archive for me.
Eventviewer btw is filled with :

4. Reset the password for the VSA, or click Browse to change the service account. (Figure 1)

i'd also suggest a USL as well, but i can't imagine VSA password reset is going to help for an RPC server unavailable issue

I wasn't expecting resetting
I wasn't expecting resetting VSA would fix the issue I wanted to see if it was going to error as well.
one thing I just thought of, have you recently upgraded to EV 8?
The event 8390 showed up in the past when Update Retention and Update Location.
BTW, what process was hung that you rebooted the server?

I want to apologize to all of
I want to apologize to all of you.
Because of invalid credentials I used remotely while opening testmailboxes and their archives, I didn't got access to the specific archives.
So because of my stupidity and the fact that I was working quite a few hours last night, it appeared that there was nothing wrong.
This morning I arrived at my work, sat behind a PC and voila, everything worked like it was suppose to work.
The EnterpriseVault.DirectoryConnection object reported an error message was created by double shortcuts which were imported from another EV server.
Thank you again for all the hints.
