I've downloaded and installed Norton Endpoint Corporate Edition (64 bit) from  my university's server. It installs and appears to run fine until I run a scan. It crashes immediately with no error message. Any suggestions or solutions will be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Do you mean Symantec Endpoint Protection? Norton does not make a corporate product. Can you tell us the exact version and build of the product? What OS are you trying to install this on? Any errors in the Windows Event viewer? Is there any other security software running on this system?

Could you check in the task manager, Processes as to which process takes up the usage when you run the scan?

The product is known as Symantec Endpoint protection.

Also could you confirm the version that you are using?

Yes, sorry, it's Symantec Endpoint Protection. It's version 11.0,5002.333. I am running Windows 7 Home SP 1. Yes there are errors in the Windows Event Viewer (CAPI2, event ID 4107). I turned off Microsoft Security Essentials before running a scan with Symantec. SEP still "stops working".

I can't check the processess in task manager because Symantec crashes before I can run a scan. However, the product icon shows up in my taskbar and everything looks fine; it's just when I run a scan that it crashes.

When I say "crash", I mean the error message from windows telling me that Symatec has stopped working.

    Hi,

RU5 was the first build compatible with Windows 7. There were issues with that version running on Win7, so I suggest you upgrade to the latest version (RU7 MP1). You say you turned off Microsoft Security Essentials. This may not be good enough, having two AV products installed on a system is not recommended, and usually causes issues like yours.

I got an updated copy of Endpoint from our IT department. Uninstalled the old one and reinstalled the most recent version. But it crashed again, same error message. Are you saying that I should completely uninstall MSE and then try running a scan? Thank you for your assistance so far.

Since it is never recommended to have two AV products installed at the same time, it would be best to remove one of them and then see if the issue goes away. If that fails to resolve the problem, you may need to open a case and get support involved.

    Regards,

    Thomas

Upgrading is a very good idea.  If it's Win7 SP1, do be sure that you are installing SEP 11 RU7 or above.  Here's the official Symantec article on the subject:
