    Hi.

I recently bought Ghost 15, because I needed to have easy solution to backup my system HDD. From the time I installed it I fighting with it's poor performance. Let me tell you my situation.

My computer configuration is easy 4core AMD CPU with 8GB of RAM. I am using 4x500gb HDD working as RAID5 one one small SSD drive for a special application. One of the drives in RAID recently failed and my array is working in degraded state, but it is still working fine without any noticable performance problems. I decided to move my ODS from RAID to a fast single HDD which I bought for this purpose. My OS and installed applications take about 180G.

What I tried first was HD copy transfering everything to the new HDD. The process takes about 30 minutes and at the end it says that wizard need to be closed because Ghost was unable to contact recovery service. I checked all three Ghost services and they are running. I tried restart them just for sure, but another attempt to copy HDD failed at the end with the same alert ..

So I decided to do backup to another HDD where I have enough place. It made a file, but it took 5hrs ??!! Next I tried to make recovery from that file to my new HDD and Ghost said it will take like 40hrs. My computer is running fine without any freez situation during backup/recovery.

Is there anything I am missing ? Any solution ?

    Pavel

This forum supports the corporate Ghost Solution Suite product, which uses different technology to the retail Norton Ghost product. You will find a link to the Norton Ghost community at the top of this forum - it is hosted on a different platform to Connect so I cannot transfer your posting there.

Personally, I found Norton Ghost 15 to be unable to handle the default partitioning scheme used by Lenovo, and I had to use PartitionManager instead, to create a backup so that I could substitute a larger hard disk in my laptop.  I prefer backup solutions that feature bootable media so that the target hard disk can be backed up without having the operating system running, as I have found this gives the best results. However, where RAID arrays are involved, you probably need a solution where the correct RAID drivers can be added to allow the array to be mounted for backup.  It is not unusual for these backup processes to take a considerable time, but again, I prefer it to take a bit longer and work properly than do it in a few minutes but not work on restore.

    Hi,

This forum supports Ghost Solution Suite, which is the corporate imaging tool and based on somewhat different technology to the retail Norton Ghost product. The sticky posting at the top of this forum will direct you to the Norton community where you can get more relevant answers to your questions.

    Thanks

So I tried to run Ghost as administrator, but it is still saying that it could not connect agent by the end of the recovery process. The reason is  -The remote procedure call failed.

Anyone any idea ? I just really need this SW make running or I just wasted 50$.

I presume you are running Windows 7 from the reference to "running as administrator".

Did you try the Norton Community as I suggested earlier?  The more recent Norton Ghost releases are based on rather flakey Partition Magic technology and not the original Ghost technology, so you may not find the relevant support you need here.
