Not able to catalog/work around does not work either

I have been banging my head against the wall for the better part of two days now. Here is my predicament. I am trying to make sure that our backup server can be restored and running with very little downtime from the tapes we use. I turn on all Backup services from the services window and then launch Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3. I then plug in the media which I want to do the restore with and run an inventory of that. The inventory comes back successful so then I go to catalog it. Typically the cataloging gets to be 3-4 mins before it fails.

I looked up a work around for it in which you go in and change the catalogs folder to old and run the catrebuildindex.exe. Then I try and run the catalog again but it fails. This is driving me nuts with the work around not working. Hope someone can provide assistance not only will you help save my sanity but also my hair. Thanks!

Hi Richard,

What error does it fail with? Do your backups span 2 or more tapes?

When cataloging it fails with e0000900and then for more info it has a hyperlink of V-797-57344-2304. We do have 5 tapes that rotate between the days doing nightly backups to the tapes. They only update to the most current version of the Primary server that day.

In the Backup Exec console go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > CATALOG and uncheck  "Request all media in the sequence for catalog operations"
