Deployment and Imaging Group

Hello All,

     We are having an issue installing the Altiris 7.1 agent via the web broswer link.  We have never had an issue in the past but for some reason we are getting an error page when click Yes to the Security Warning via the Symantec Management Agent Download page.  

(This page makes use of a CAB file called AltirisAgentInstBoostrap.cab that should have been downloaded when you opened this page.  The file has failed to download)  and gives a couple reasons as to why it could happen.  

I checked my IE settings and they seem fine.  This is the first time we have had this type of issue after a few years of installing via the browser.  Any ideas would be truly appreciated.

otherwise you aren't able to download installer?

1. Is there any new updated Group Policy received from your Administrator which could change this behavior for I.E and now it doesn't install Altiris Agent?
2. Have you tried to use another computer to try to install Altiris Agent via browser?
3. Any useful information in NT Events "Application", "System", "Security" logs?
4. Check whether CAB files are corrupted or not \\localhost\NSCap\bin\Win64\X64      \\localhost\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86
5. Your NS is working through HTTP or HTTPs? If HTTPs, then there is no certificate errors in I.E?
6. How much free space is available for C:\ on client PC, where you aren't able to install SMA through I.E? (If less than 500MB than installation will not be started)

Hello and thanks for the response.  I don't think there are any new groups.  This is a new batch of desktop systems that we received with a base install.  It looks like it fails on the first 3 we tried to install.  I am able to install on some laptops we also have that are in the same group in our AD environment.  I will try to install before adding to the domain just to rule that out.  

I am also able to install via the Altiris console by pushing the agent.  

We use http so no cert issue. The desktops do have more Windows Updates installed than the laptops so not sure if a new update is causing the issue in IE.  

Systems have plenty of space over 400GB.

Ok I tried the same desktops but without adding to the domain and same result so pretty sure not a group policy issue.

We don't use SSL on our servers since they are all internal.  

Do you have any virus scanner that could be blocking the download?

Do you have UAC enabled and do you get a prompt?

Can you do a search of your system drive to see if the cab file possibly downloaded but couldn't run? On my system it downloaded to this location: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\J3U7FW8K\AltirisAgentInstBootstrap.cab

Is your NS using the FQDN and in your trusted sites list?

There is a Code Signing cert issued by VeriSign with the cab but I'm guessing if you didn't trust that root you'd be having much worse issues.

Can you try manually installing from script?

we have installed via this method for several years successfully

First thing I'd do is check another browser, like chrome. This will  help identify if it's something in IE which is blocking the download, or something wrong server-side.
