Solaris 8 is not support OS version for Netbackup 7.1 even for 7.0

you would need to upgrade the OS to the atleaset solairs 9 (supports only client)

or try to install 6.5.X

check sort , and compatablity list

https://sort.symantec.com/netbackup

check again your OS version.

If the client is supported, try to telnet bpcd from the client (telnet localhost bpcd). If it is working then you must check any firewall between the server and the client.

Also check the /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny files at the client  These files may block the communication even from the client itself.

If the client is not supported, install 6.5

Nagalla is right - 7.x is not supported on Solaris 8.

How did you manage to install NBU client software?

Hello.

Sorry Client NBU version is 7.1 and solaris 10

How i start the bpcd port

RamNagalla's picture

go ahead and use the below command to start.

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcd -standalone

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/vnetd -standalone

StefanosM's picture

your bpcd may be in maintenance mode

check these links:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...
http://www.solaris-cookbook.com/WP-Cookbook/solari...

also check the hosts.allow and hosts.deny files

How did you install the software?

If you used NBU install script, it would install startup script, then start PBX as well vnetd and bpcd in standalone mode.

Please post installation log.

Hello All.

Soo Much Sorry.

Actually client is solaris 8 and NBU version is 6.5 and Master server is NetBackup-Solaris10 6.5.4

Please help

Definatly no help from connect..

you only have 2 options as i stated earlier...

1) you would need to upgrade the OS to the atleaset solairs 9 (supports only client)

2) try installing the 6.5 X, ( its out of support life cycle)

StefanosM's picture

have you check my sugestions?

Marianne's picture

Only requirement on NBU 6.5 is for bpcd and vnetd to be 'listening' - so you do not have a NBU issue...

This is your problem:

Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host

If server and client are on different subnets, there needs to be a router in order to connect them...

Please provide output of the following on the server:

ping <client-name>

traceroute <client-name>

If above commands produce errors, please take up with your network team.

Repeating what Marianne said another way...

[80092345@usnbub5500 bin]$ telnet hquw5001qc-brn bpcd
Trying 10.201.136.31...
telnet: connect to address 10.201.136.31: No route to host
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host

"No route to host" is a network issue, not a NetBackup issue.  All this version talk is irrelevant if you're having a network issue.

Ad Chris pointed, it is a network issue. You should check if the host usnbub55000 has a network route to hquw5001qc-brn.
