  • 1.  Not all files are being delivered to Package Server

    Afternoon everyone.  I have added a piece of software thru the Software Catalog.  Everything looks fine, but when the package servers get the info, it copies only partial files from the source directory into the server and then states Retrying Download.  This is a fairly new NS 7.1 box (up to date).  Has anyone seen this or know how to fix this?

    Check package.xml and log.xml files for that package on the package server for errors or interesting information.  Post them here if you're not sure what to make of what you find.  They're found within the {GUID} folder for that package.

    Here are the xml files.  The server got about 57% of the files needed (2.2GB our of 3.8) then went into the retrying download.  I have another package thats doing the same thing and its only 18MB.  Just as a side note I also have about half a dozen other software packages of various sizes that went just fine.

    z-TESTSERVER is not the offical name..just did a find and replace for security reasons. :)

    Has "IIS Lockdown" or similar been run on the NS?  Sometimes this happens if IIS is configured to not allow distribution of a particular file type, or if the file in question is a hidden file. A too-deep file structure (or, what would be once it downloads to the PS) can also get you in trouble; SAS is particularly heinous for this problem as they have lots of very long directory names, full of even more long directory names, containing files with very long names; very quickly you hit the ~256-ish character path limit  I've also had this when the permissions on the source files are broken/mixed and IIS doesn't have access to them.  Putting the PS Logviewer in Verbose mode should help too, as it will show exactly what file is failing.  What is in the Agent log file on the PS when it is trying to download this package?  It should show the exact file which is failing.

    Thanks for the help.  After looking into the logs found out that the hidden Thumbs.db files within the software package was causing it to fail.  Either removing the hidden or deleting the file resolved the issue.
