Not all files backed up Win2008 R2

Hi Guys,

Another one from me.  This is also currently open with Symantec support.

I have 4 servers, a mix of virtual and physical running Win 2008 R2 both 64 and 32 bit.

The only thing they all have in common is they are running LANDesk products.  3 are running LANDesk service desk, and 1 is our management suite server.

Since installing although all my full backups and incrementals complete with code zero, i have actually found not all the data is being backed up.  The D drive for instance NBK backs up 41GB and the server has 51+GB worth of data.  Restores have shown that there are many exe files but also entire folders, and other file types that are missed, yet NBK seems to think all is ok.   I have been testing most recently with explorer.exe which is a file the backup misses, and cant see for the life of my why.  I tried turning on true image with move detection, checked exclude lists, using VSS, i just cant see why i couldn't back up the files.  If i get windows to do a backup and dump it somewhere, NBK does pick that up correctly (that ours work around at this stage, but certainly not ideal going forward..)

We are running NBK version 6.5.4, clients are 6.5.4 on 32bit and 6.5 on 64.  All servers have file services and IIS  (I do have a test server with just the file server role that backs up fine.)

Any help would be great.

Max

NetBackup Client Service logon account?

Which logon account is used for the NetBackup Client Service? Does this account have full access to each file/folder on each of the clients?

If this account does not have access to folders (i.e can 'see' a folder name bu not the contents) it will backup the folder name and report success. It cannot backup or report missed files if they're not even visible to the logon account.

Try to change the logon for this service to a Domain Admin account on one of the problematic clients. Restart the service after the change and retry the backup.

Let us know, please.

Additionally, thought 2008 R2 64-bit "not supported"

until 6.5.5? Altho' that doesn't explain the 32-bit which isn't explicitly mentioned in the compatibility list for R2?

Great stuff Andy! I've

Great stuff Andy! yes

I've recently seen something similar at a customer, so I was sharing personal experience...

I did not even take note of the NBU versions!  Weird that Symantec Support did not pick up the compatibility issue?

Thanks both.

Thanks both, i'll try your suggestions and report back.  Whilst i agree on the supported versions as Andy has stated this doesn't seem to explain what is happening.  We will look at upgrading to 7.0.1 anyway, but i am not convinced this will resolve the problem.

Are you using DFSR by any

Are you using DFSR by any chance?

Also, there is no such thing as a 32-bit 2008 R2, the R2 release is 64 bit only.  Do you mean 2008 32-bit SP2?
