    Hi All,

I have a cc/scanner that has stopped getting spam added to the quarantine, which is really odd.  There was very little in there on Tuesday morning after the holliday weekend and after I emptied it nothing has been added since.  This machine also has one other scanner that it controls, my other cc/scanner is getting stuff added to its quarantine so I know it is not that the software has learned so well that it doesn't label anything "suspect".  Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Ok, here is an update.  I restarted the server that has the CC on it and stuff started appearing in the quarantine again.  It was quarantineing stuff, just not showing up in the web interface.  I saw mail come thru that was received a day or two before I noticed it empty for too long of period.

    Hello Dave,

If this is Brightmail 6, I would suggest restarting the Tomcat service on occasion. This can help negate potential User Interface display issues. It also sounds like you may be running into some issues with the SQL database, so running a MySQL check and repair may be in order. You can find information on how to do so in the following document:

Title: 'How to check or repair a MySQL database when errors are returned for the installed version of Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam'
    Document ID: 2004110407532763
    > http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2004110407532763?Open&seg=ent

As a side note, I would also suggest running the following command after running the auto repair:

"mysqlcheck -ubrightmailuser -p<paste password here> brightmail --optimize"

It is also best practice to run these on a scheduled basis. So once a month or so depending on how much data goes in and out of the quarantine.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks!

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for the response, no it's not BM it's:

    smssmtp501-2007-11-07_02
    Control Center version: 5.0.0.1
    Java version: 1.5.0_11
    MySQL version: 5.0.15

And I have checked the DB not too long ago but not since this happened.  Also this is the first time as I can recall it has happened and I have been using this product for quite some time.

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Hey Dave,

So since we are both on the MySQL backbone for the database my previous suggestion of the auto repair and optimize should still be valid. The restarting of Tomcat may or may not help. Since this is what is serving the web page it would be worth a try at least since it's not going to hurt anything. And is a little less invasive than a full reboot.

Are you still having an issue since the reboot? As a side note you may want to make sure that you are all up to date and patched. The latest version of the product is 5.0.1 patch 189.

    Thanks!

    Hi Tom,

Trying anything no would be unproductive since it has worked correctly since the reboot.  I will give those a try if it does occour again though.

    Thanks,

    Dave
