Notification Server - Converting to a Virtual Server
Has anyone converted their Notification Server to a VM? We are considering doing this. Any info on your experience would be helpful.
How many clients do you have?
Is SQL Server on box or off box?
Is your SQL server on the same switch as your VM Parent Server?
Any tweaks you used to get the best performance?
Thanks for your input.

Virtual NS
I have seen several Virtual Notification Servers, there seems to be very little performance difference from VM to Physical when the SQL box is off box.
As always watch out for DISK I/O issues as related to reading NS event queues.

All Of Our Altiris Infrastructure Is On VMWare
We started out with physical boxes but have used the VMWare tools to convert them to VM's.
We have converted the following physical servers to VM's:
1 NS w\ Helpdesk
1 Package \ Task Server (combined)
1 Security Expressions Server
1 Deployment Server
1 SQL Server that house all Altiris DB's
We have about 3oo servers and 700 clients.
I have seen no difference in performance.
Altiris on VMware
It is a know issue that SQl performs a little bit worse on VMWare, but that is not a problem.
I use a lot of VMWare as you also see in my articles.
One of the best features that makes VMWare rule is Vmotion.
Even when the hardware fails my servers stay up and runnign.
That is really the strongest case for VMWare, and the little bit of performs issue for SQL?
I have a bigger problem when my SQL fails and i can not use Vmotion because the SQL server is not Virtual.
