Notifications not working after database restore

  • 1.  Notifications not working after database restore

    Posted May 20, 2010 02:03 PM

While upgrading to 11.6a I had to ultimately reinstall and restore my database.  Everything is now working for the most part,  clients are now synced up thanks to sylink replacer.  I have a few basic notification conditions.  My single risk notificaiton is work and does send an email,  but it doesnt have the option to write to the database.   I have a test notifcaiton setup that is for authentication failure,  a great way to test if its working.  This notification does not email or write anything to the database and I cant figure out why.  I purposely fail logging to the endpoint console,   but i never get an email and there are no notifications in the DB.   Again I know email is working because my single risk event does email me.  Thanks

When you performed the restore were you in a non console RDP session?

    Hi pnh107,

Can you post a screenshot of your Authentication Failure notification condition that you have setup within your SEPM? In my experience, notification failures often come down to a simple misconfiguration.

Also, has the Authentication Failure notification worked even one time since reinstalling the SEPM and restoring the database?

    Regards,
    James

I would try to recreate the the notification and see if that makes a difference.

I newly created this notification after the restore because I deleted it along time ago since I only used it to test.
    Screenshot is attached.

    Hi pnh107,

Try removing the "SAV" entry from the Server field and replace it with a "*" (no quotes). See if that makes a difference.

    pnh107,

    Ok, try this.

    1. Delete your current "auth fail" notification condition.
    2. Create a new Authentication Failure notification condition. Change only the following settings:
    3. Name it "Authentication Failure"
    4. Change Notification to 1 occurence within 1 minute.
    5. Put a checkmark in "Send email to" and fill in a known-good email address.
    6. Do NOT put a checkmark in "Write the notification to the database".
Try that out and see if that changes anything.

Also, what version of Symantec Endpoint Protection are you using?

    Regards,
    James

I tried that previously and just tried again still no luck.   Im on 11.06a

Again my single risk notification is working and sending an email,  but no other notifications are.

    Hi pnh107,

That's very odd. I'm sorry, I'm out of good ideas as to what to have you try.

If you have a current support contract, I recommend calling in to our technical support lines and speaking with one of our agents. They would be able to work on the issue with you in much better fashion than I could on these forums.

    Regards,
    James
