  • 1.  Novell eDirectory File Share Permissions

    Hello,

I've been trying to find a way in 10.5 RMS to query eDirectory and output which Users/Groups have access to each folder in all file shares.  I have a list of all File Severs that I've included into the scope but can't seem to find the correct Data Source in the initial setup.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Let me start off saying I have never worked with Novell sources in RMS/Bindview.  If you have something similar available in Novell, this could be helpful.

I have done this kind of query in the past using the "Security: File System" data source (bv-Control for Windows).  That will allow you to access the AD membership and attributes to each directory.  I would then need to scope to a "Directory on a Machine in a Domain" under "Advanced Scope".  There you would supply the domain, machine name and starting directory path (or share name).  You would also need to select how many sub-directory levels deep you wanted to include.  A little warning, for each level deep, the query run-time would get exponentially longer.  I would not suggest using this method for more than 2 levels deep.  Even with that, I have had queries run for several days to provide about 3-4 sub-directories deep (granted they were slow servers on a domain in asia - where our main infrasturcture was in the US).

    I hope this helps.
