Hi there,
I have Altiris NS 6.5 Installed on a server.
I was running an update, i think it was SP3 and the installation failed.
Now the NS is broken.. the Altiris database on othe SQL Server seems fine, but i can't access any setting from NS.
I got the client installed on hundreds of computers.. but i need to fix this ASAP i tried this solution..
https://kb.altiris.com/display/1n/articleDirect/in...
Will be it be ok to reinstall altiris again? will it pick up the database and work again?
Any other solutions?
This is a screenshot of the error

thanks

Why did the installation fail?

Did you get any error messages in general? Can you check the Altiris logs on the server to see what they say? How did you do the upgrade (were you logged onto the server, or at least using a terminal services connection with a session ID of 0)?

You can do a repair of the Notification Server, by running repair on BOTH Notification Server and the last installed NS Hotfix that is present in the add\remove control panel. This will then launch the mini-setup so you can reconfigure and point it to the existing database.

Hi, i didn't get any error

Hi,
i didn't get any error in particular.
I was logged on to the server.
The log error i get all the time is:
<event date='Jul 13 10:01:50' severity='2' hostName='xxx-xxx-xxx' source='Client Task Agent' module='Client Task Agent.dll' process='AeXNSAgent.exe' pid='1164' thread='2892' tickCount='59234' >
<![CDATA[CAtrsException exception, error = "Attempted to reference a null interface", OS error = 2147549183, at line 71

re-throw at CAtrsInterfacePtr::operator->

re-throw at CTaskAgentBase::IsRegistered

re-throw at CTaskAgentBase::CheckRegister]]></event>

Please note i've changed the hostname to xxx-xxx-xxx for security reasons.

How do i run the repair on the NS Server?

Thanks

The repair must be run from add\remove programs

as I stated above. "by running repair on BOTH Notification Server and the last installed NS (specific) Hotfix that is present in the add\remove control"

Did the repair finish?

How far through the process did you get? It appears you missing some critical .net assembly files. These are usually fixed by doing a repair (a few instance where this is not the case), so we'll have to tread carefully

Your last update indicated the repair finished

So, I was waiting to see if the issue was resolved. You need to post some of the log files here. Try filtering the logs for errors only, if you can only copy and paste information.
