The Add or Remove Programs Search Report is timing out. When this happens the whole page is grayed out. How can I edit the report or add a parameter if it won't run?

All reports are saved in the console with a "read-only" switch.  If you want to change one, or modify it to your own purposes, or whatever, clone it, rename it, and then tear it up!  This is actually the recommended method of getting MOST custom reports you may ever want.

Just right-click in the left pane on the report and choose clone.  the rest is pretty straight-forward.

    Thomas,

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately the cloned report times out also. When this happens the report is grayed out and won't let you edit or change parameters.

Well, there's more than one way to approach a problem.

Ummm, I think the first thing I'd do is 1) check the altiris logs for any indication of WHY it's timing out.  Deadlocks for instance?  2) I'd check SQL for any indication there of what might be happening.  Maybe SQL is just overworked.

    3) failing that, I'd edit the report directly via XML so that I can make it fail, and then get in and fix it.  :P  If you right-click the report (not left click) and export the XML, you can then modify the SQL to do something really really simple, comment out the rest of the code but leave it in-tact, re-import it, then edit it when it succeeds.

Well that was convoluted, but it works, thanks. Is there a way to turn off automatic report execution? So you actually have a chance to enter the parameters you want?

I don't know.  I know I've wanted to do this before, and swore at it when I couldn't, but I don't think I ever got an answer. hmmmmm

I'll try to find out.  This isn't my specialty, but it's always worth asking, and hey, at least we were able to get you into the report!  :D  Sorry "convoluted" was all I had.

Well, there is, but it's equally convoluted.

I checked with the product designer, and yes, this IS an active feature request to 1) have a global setting to turn off the auto-run of reports and 2) have a button on the reports that will run them on command.  However, I also have ITMS 7.1 beta installed (due out in march) and this feature is not there, so I suspect it'll be a while.
