    Hey Everyone,

We are having an issue where we have installed a fresh NS using the symantec_sim_7_1_55 on Windows 2008 R2, update the Sim when prompted and install Symantec Management Platform MP1 7.1.6797, but at the end of the installation process there is no Console Icon.  In addition, when navigating to the C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\RootWeb\ there is Console directory.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Thanks all.

Just curious, as that screenshot is exactly what my directory looks like. You still are going to have to load (at minimum) the SMP platform solution.

I would like to +1 this as we are having the exact same problem and we are in a very serious bind with all of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off, make sure the /Altiris/Console virtual directory exists.  In IIS Manager, go to Default Website->Altiris->Console.  If that's OK, then select Basic settings on the right hand side under Actions.  Make sure the Physical path is C:\Program Files\Altiris\CustomConsole\Web\

I did as suggested and the console cam up but most of the console never loads. Many pages still missing their links. Something interesting though. We took ownership of the C:\program files folder and gave ourselves full rights to the root and had all children under take the same rights. We created an Altiris folder under c:\program files and made sure that the rights propagated all the way down. Keeping the properties window for Altiris open on the security tab we then ran SIM and installed SMP 7.1 As soon as the install begins the security tab on the c:\program files\altris folders empties its users and repopulates with the original default users. We have rolled back or VM and tried this over and over and always the same result, our permissions assigned to that folder get knocked out as soon as we run the SMP installer that actually installs and configures the Altiris console. We are stuck!!...Need help..

Ok we found what was causing most of the problems with installing the console. Here is what we found. There is a registry key "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EnableInstallerDetection" This was set to enabled, we set it to disabled and it allowed the SIM to push the console down. Basically it's part of the UAC and is disabled by defualt on 2008 R2 but our GPO switched it back on. Here is an snippet from the Microsoft Site that may help to explain it all.

User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation

The User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation policy setting controls the behavior of application installation detection for the computer.

    The options are:

    • Enabled. (Default for home) When an application installation package is detected that requires elevation of privilege, the user is prompted to enter an administrative user name and password. If the user enters valid credentials, the operation continues with the applicable privilege.

    • Disabled. (Default for enterprise) Application installation packages are not detected and prompted for elevation. Enterprises that are running standard user desktops and use delegated installation technologies such as Group Policy Software Installation or Systems Management Server (SMS) should disable this policy setting. In this case, installer detection is unnecessary.

Once this policy was changed, what did you need to do in SIM to get it to then lay down the console?
