Hi All,

I was wondering, does anyone know if the Macintosh NS Inventory task is able to pull in "System Manufacturer" on OS X (version 10.5.8 in our case) machines?  The inventory is running successfully ours, however in Inv_AeX_HW_Serial_Number, System Manufacturer is not populated (as it is on PC's):

Thoughts?  Thanks!

System Manufacturer

I suppose System Manufacturer is just assumed...who else would it be besides Apple?  Or are you looking for manufacturers of individual components (i.e. NIC, Optical drives, etc.)?

At least in our environment,

At least in our environment, they'd all be Apple.  What's happening is I wrote some metrics reports which group PC's by manufacturer.  Since the Mac inventory doesn't populate "System Manufacturer" in the database, those Mac machines don't show up in this particular report.  In the grand scheme of things, I suppose I could manually add in the Apple machines to the report; it would just be nice if the inventory populated it.

 There's a report in Reports

There's a report in Reports > All Reports > Discovery and Inventory > Inventory > Cross-Platform > Count of Computers by Manufacturer that sounds like what you're trying to achieve

Yeah, I see that report

Yeah, I see that report (We're running NS 6 so the path is a bit different), and it works...however Apple doesn't show up in the list because the Mac agent doesn't report the Manufacturer.

Joseph, do you have any Mac's in your environment?  I assume you're running NS7; do they show up in your report?  Thanks!

6.x

In 6.x you're right, we don't capture the Manufacturer.  As a workaround, you could use the Vendor column from one of the Inv_Aex_Mac* inventory tables (such as USB) and Apple should show up in there.

In 7.x, the report that Joseph is referencing does accurately display Apple systems.
