I'm new to Altiris. I went to the DS training and have purchased CMS. I'm looking to use the patch management portion of CMS. I'm having trouble understanding the documentation on this... Does anyone know of any videos that explains the NS or the patch management portion?
Thank you for any help.
~Angie

Software Update Agent

In order to get the software update tab you have to install the software update agent.

 Hello Abhar, Before you can

 Hello Abhar,

Before you can see the Software update agent on the Altiris Agent you need to configure a number of items on the Notification Server console for Patch Management:

  • Enable the Software Update Agent roll-out
  • Stage Microsoft updates under the task tab
  • Enable bulletins you want to deploy to the agent

I have created an article on how to automate the staging and to enable all software updates on Patch Management 6.2 [1], you may want to check it (as long as you are running on a test server ;).

NS6?

Angie,
If you're using NS6 and Patch Management 6, you must deploy the Software Update Agent as Andrew alluded to.  Assuming you're in your testing environment, go to the Configuration tab, then Solutions Settings > Software Management > Patch Management > Windows > Software Update Agent Rollout.  Enable the Policy there for "Software Update Agent Install".  This will allow the SUA to install on your client machines the next time they check in (in a default configuration, every 5 minutes I believe).  Once the Agent installs, then you will have the Software Updates tab in the Altiris Agent.

Thanks,
Kyle

Altiris KB

There is also a KB going through the basic steps of a first time configuration.  https://kb-cm.altiris.com/articleRedirect.asp?aid=45460|
