Hello, I need a report that looks for file extensions on a collection of systems. Does anyone have any ideas??

Thanks

Can we expand on this report?

Its great that we can get an overview of file types on our network, but we cant see the file path or location of these files?

We have a situation where our My Documents folder are redirected to a Network share such as our SAN.
I've included the network share (H:) to be included in our Invenotry tasks, but theres no way to see where exactly these files are located...

Any ideas?

yabru, By default the

yabru,
By default the inventory tasks only look at .exe files and no other extensions.  The report Richard gave the path to shows the file type summary data that the AuditPlus agent generates, but there is again (by default) no actual file name gathering done.  If you wanted to inventory all *.doc, *.xls, etc files you'd need to add them to the AuditPls.ini file using AeXAPEdit.exe on the "File Masks" tab, and on the "Include Unknown" tab you would want to check WIN32 and "invalid - including all data files" at a minimum.

Just a warning...depending on the number of machines and the number of files each machine has, this will likely cause your database (or minimally, the Inv_AeX_SW_Audit_Software table) to grow substantially.

Thanks,

Thanks very much, I've added

Thanks very much,

I've added the relevant extensions, and its now reporting on these.

It would be really good though if we could see the file path of certain files.

Currently i can drill down into the extension and see the list of computers which have these but i can drill down into the individual computer to see where these files are located.

It just seems strange we can see which computers have these extensions but cant see where they located. Its more for space investigtion rather than wanting to know where user stored there word doc files. EG: .VOB files

If its possible to edit the report to reflect this info i'll see if i can get it done, but just wanted to know if ayone has wanted/had this done before?

Apologies...this data does show. It just takes a while to come through.

:-)

It may help to ensure that your database is configured with maintenance jobs in addition to backups, which rebuild the indexes on a regular (weekly) basis.  Check with your DBAs.
