NS / Task server question
Created: 18 Jan 2013 | 6 comments
The NS server we have is also the task server for that site. Looks like the task service is broken and cant be fixed. If I create a new task server, can I remove the task service from the NS ? I think this would solve my problem if it can be done

The NS is always a task server. What you can do is create a specific task server policy for just the NS and give it a very low limit of how many machines can connect to it - that way they'll all go to the other task server you're bringing up.

Actually, I was told that 7.1 SP2 and later allows removal of Task Service from the NS using the Site Maintenance GUI interface in the Console. Don't touch .msi's, don't uninstall Task Server, but uninstalling Task Service as part of Install/remove services in the Symantec Management Console is OK:

Thanks Andrew, where would i do that ? This is V7.0
Settings > All Settings
Expand Settings > Notification Server > Site Server Settings > Task Service > Settings, right-click Task Service Settings, Clone, provide a name, delete target, assign to Notification Server only, set to respond to maximum of 100 clients using drop-down. Save changes and enable policy. Finally, modify other Task Service Settings to exclude Notification Server but otherwise include all site servers running task service.
But I'm hoping Andrew can confirm what I was told by backline support. I've been using that method without any noticed bad things for months.
