NS6 Agent Deployment

My company is working on a major agent rollout for NS6. One area of concern for us is the length of time it takes the bootstrap program to call/install all subsequent solution agents. Because we use DeepFreeze, an application that freezes the hard drives and prevents any changes/installations from remaining installed, we must be sure that when we push the agents, all of them install during the maintenance window. Otherwise, the machines hard drives will re-freeze and any subsequent installations will not be permanent.

One workaround that we've considered is to use the DS to push out the actual agent packages, instead of using the Bootstrap agent to install the additional agents. What do you guys/girls think? Is this a feasible solution? Does anyone have any other suggestions or tips?

Using DS to push the agents

Using DS to push the agents seems like a feasible option to me since you only have a short window of oppertunity. Once NS7 comes out, it really will not be an issue because you can set matainence windows within the NS itself so it will only perform actions during a certain time.

Hey Bar, Are you going to

Hey Bar,
Are you going to install it through a Logging script or DS solution?

I would use the DS to run a install script and a wait statement or follow another script with a VBS script to have the client talk to the NS....

remember to test it out in your lab...

Our original intent was to

Our original intent was to use DS. Still fishing around for other alternatives.

One additional option we are considering is to install the Altiris Agent on the image, then deploying the image to all machines. If duplicate guids are created on the NS we will use the Merge Computer script to remediate.

Again, none of this is set in stone. I am fishing for alternatives or tips.
