NS6 and SQL Server

Created: 21 Jun 2012 • Updated: 21 Jun 2012 | 4 comments

What SQL server version does NS6 support?

I know it works on SQL 2000 and 2005 but we would like to upgrade to 2008 or 2008 R2.

Thank you,

SQL 2005 SP4 and SQL 2008 with no SPs is supported.  SQL 2008 with any SP other than RTM and SQL 2008 R2 are not supported.  You can refer to the support matrix for details:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9965

Although it would be an unsupported configuration, you would likely find no issues if you hosted in SQL 2008/2008 R2.

The HOWTO document only list up to R13, anything change in R14 with regarded to SQL?

Also, MS doesn't support SQL 2008 RTM any more.. Anyone tried SQL 2008 sp2 or sp3 with NS6?

Yes, I ran NS6 R13 on SQL 2008 R2.  I believe it was RTM at the time.  If that works and is not supported, and SQL 2008 RTM worked and was supported, you should be fine on any SP of SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2 -- but keep in mind supported and 'works' are two different things.

Well, technically NS6 is not supported by Symantec/Altiris. I just feel better of they say support a version of SQL or if other SA have successfully use them.

Any other has try SQL 2008 with SP on NS6?
