Deployment Solution

Here's what I'n trying to accomplish at this point. We have DS 6.9SP4 up and running in production. I'm trying to put together an NS7 environment to initially mimic the production environment (the NS7 build is virtual). My first roadblock has actually been PXE booting into Linux and getting it to show in the deployment portal. I can PXE boot using WinPE, and it shows fine and dandy.

The linux environment looks to boot correctly in PXE and it seems the agents are loaded and registered as such. I'm fairly new to NS7 and any help would be very beneficial. Thanks in advance!

do you have any default jobs to run. if not create a simple run script like ifconfig and write that to a file on the deployment share on the server. Also it may not be setup for the linux configuration to run the initial deployment. Remeber that linuxPE can only run rdeploy images and not ghost images. (unless that has changed and I dont know about it)

Well I'm trying to run an image capture. I suppose I'm used to 6.9 where it tells you it's waiting for the server. But do you have any clue why it's not populating in the DS portal and winpe is? When you boot into WinPE, it shows me the machine name "minint" then some numbering. I was under the assumption that LinuxPE would do something similar. No?

Tried running the Image capture job using Linux PXE boot and it did what it's been doing, sitting at a root prompt waiting.  When I check DS it tells me that the task is waiting for the agent. WinPE didn't boot the first time I tried it with that.. I suppose I didnt' wait long enough for THAT config to take place ( I have to check the policy schedule and make sure it's doing what it's supposed to be doing). Point being, when I tried using WinPE that didn't work, I got farther then I'm getting with the linux preboot that looks to be booting fine. Frustrating.

Still not reporting in Deployment portal. I've even removed the PXE config for Linux completely and added it again. Very frustrating to go through this. Any insight Viddect or anybody? Thanks in advance!

Dont be a sad panda! I think the issue is you are booting a windows machine with linux. In 7.1 this meant that a new linux resource is created in the DS, and of course the job you assigned is to a windows resource.

so... at the moment, you must use winPE for your windows known resources

I think this may be changing soon enough to allow you to run any automation on any OS.

Ok well that makes sense. I guess my issue is getting a linux machine to report in th DS portal. It doesn't have to be known by DS for it to report it does it? I'm trying to setup a bare-metal push at this point.  Any thoughts?
