 Hi!

I have a small esx virtual test setup with CMS 7 installed.

I have 2 windows xp computers with the NS7 agent installed, and I have without errors collected a full inventory from them and software discovery has run without errors.

When I run the installed software report on the 2 computers it only returns 2 entires, and the Software catalog has about 100 empty entries see attached picture. Has anybody got a solution for this?

Cheers,

kbering

Try running a repair

I have seen this before in my demo environment and, if I remember correctly, running a repair on Software Management Solution resolved the issue.

I've got the same problem

Hi,

I have the same problem.

The repair of the Software management solution did not solve the problem.

Has anybody an idea?

Inventory 7 SP1

What version of inventory are you running, I have got my setup working using inventory 7 SP1. Try reading this article https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/improvements-inventory-solution-70-70-sp1

Good luck!

Inventory 7 SP1 is running

Hi kbering,

thankyou for your feedback. On the Server I've installed Inventory 7 SP1. Also a repair of Inventory solution was not sucessful.

In my test environment (VM-Ware) the problem does not exist, there are the same solutions installed than in producton environment. In the test environment all entries are visible and also the "installed Software report" is filled with Products which are installed on the client.

I've looked into the database. The product will be saved in the vSoftwareCompnent view. In this table there are no entries for some Softwareproduct in the columns Name and Description.  That means that the NS will not save the Software in the database.

Me too and I've had a call open for weeks now...

This is something I've got and I've had logged with Symantec as a critical call for quite some weeks. But I have had very little response. the KB article I was pointed to involved deleting the software cache on the clients and rerunning the software discovery but did nothing. I'd really like to know what to do and why it has arisen. It may be to do with the partial sending of data that was part of the original 7 inventory, but I have the latest version installed with patches.

I also have seen this

I have seen the same problem on multiple customers. Let me know if you found the solution.

A possible solution

Well I had tech support get onto my system and it would seem :-

If the Software inventory policy run doesn't have the collect all file information ticked it doesn't collect enough to properly populate the catalogue.

Once you run with this ticked it recreates the entries and you can just delete the empty ones.

I'm not totally convinced but seems ot be fixed at the moment. There should be no way these entries make it into the catalogue in the first place though.
