  • 1.  NS7.1: Storing Packages only in software library

    Posted Dec 23, 2011 10:50 AM

Because of space limitations I don't want to store packages on my NS or package server. I've moved the software library to a UNC path thats pointing to central storage and that's working fine. However it looks like the packages are being copied to the package server. If I create the 300+ packges we need I'll run out of space on the package server. Looking at each of the packages through the console on the package server tab  I can edit it so they don't go to the package server. When I do that and send a task to a client using that package it sits there, never installs and eventually times out. Is it possible to have the packages installed directly from the software library? If not whats the point of having the software library if the package server is going to cache everything?

I also see this is the case with patchmanagement. I've set it to the patches download to a UNC path, but it looks like those being cached to the package server as well.

for software. The whole point of the package server is to cache packages, If you don't want to cache packages on your package server get rid of it.

    Hi Sam,

If you would like to use Package Servers in your enviroment, customize the Package Service Settings:

"Delete package files if they are unused for" is configured for 7 days. If you change to 0-3 days, problally you´ll decrease the package numbers in your package server.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO62654

In the Software Package, you could configure witch you need to be replicated to package server.

In the Policy and Package Settings of Patch Management configuration (Settins\Software\Patch Management\Windows Settings\Windows Patch Remediation Settings), configure the "Delete packages after:" option and Package Distribution, check out the package servers.

    Regards,
