I need to export my Asset Management data from a 7.1 database into a new 7.5 database.  When I run the NSUpgradewizard.exe file on my 7.1 SMP it only produces a file at is 13MB in size.  When I look at the exporter for the Asset Management Solution it only lists License Certificate Exporter.  Does this tool work on exporting against a 7.1 database?  I used this on my NS 6 database and got a 19GB file which is what I was expecting from my 7.1 database.

I think the Importer/Exporter is only for 6.0 Data, if you want to migrate 7.0/7.1 data to 7.1/7.5 you should use the Software Resource Replicator:

"The Software Resource Replicator - The 7.0 to 7.1 migration tool does not migrate Software Resources, expecting the database to be upgraded instead of a new migration"

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH166711

If you want more data than that I think Symantec expect you to upgrade the database as a whole.

I ran into a problem with my 7.1 SMP where software delivery tasks do not work.  I have spent well over 20 hours over the course of a month on the phone with at least 10 Symantec Engineers to try and resolve the issue.  We finally abandoned trying to resolve the issue since we weren't getting anywhere and I just needed to move on.

I built a new 7.5 test server then ran my test to deploy a software delivery task.  My test was a success.  My next test was to copy the 7.1 database to a dev sql server and upgrade it 7.5.  After the upgrade was complete I attempted to try and push out the same Software delivery task that just worked.  My test failed with the same results I had with my 7.1 server.

I think there is a problem with the database which is why I only want to try and export my asset data.  I don't need anything else like patching since I am pretty much starting from scratch and can recreate that in the new 7.5 server.

I contacted Symantec Support after the Migration Wizard only produced a 13MB file.  The engineer first said the wizard doesn't work on 7.1 but then a few days later he call me back stating that the information he have me was incorrect and that it does work on 7.1.  I kept telling the engineer that I didn't think the tool worked because of what my results were. He is still insisting that I export my 13MB file and run the import on my 7.5 server.  I am not going to run this since I know that the file is pretty much empty and I don't want to trash a new database to only run another endless test for Symantec.

If the Software Resource Replicators can grab data such as Catalogs, Fixed Asset Catalogs, Purchase orders, then I think this might work.

No, I'm pretty sure the Software Resource Replicator won't grab Asset data, only Software Resources.

There is a tool to examine the Migration Wizard file, it should be in the same directory as the migration wizard, you can see what is in your migration file.

I wouldn't worry about trashing your 7.5 database, just make a copy and point the NS to that first.

Try forwarding the Asset data only, or exporting and importing from your upgraded 7.5 db in test to the live one.

Could you please tell me what method was used for upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5?

Since migration wizard is the only way to upgrade from NS6,  therefore you got 19GB of data.

Migration Wizard 7.x migrates only some settings, licenses and resource keys, not all data from DB.
