Odd behavior when deploying SEP11 packages to SAV10 machines

We are rolling out SEP11 to our clients, and we are pushing packages through the "find unmanaged computers" wizard.  Currently our PC's are running Sav 10 CE.  When we first push them out, all seems well, and they show up in our console, but after a minute or two they show "offline" with no virus definitions installed, auto-protect not running, and no status available.

If we delete them from the console, and then repush, the then appear properly in the console, online, definitions updated, etc - %100 of the time.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior in a similar scenario?

Best practices

It is strange but did you prepare the SAV 10 for the migration?
In the installation_guide.pdf have a look to the paragraph "Preparation of legacy installation for migration" (Section 3, Chapter 8 if I remember well).

Cheers,

Regards,

Giuseppe

Just out of curiousity, What

Just out of curiousity, What does it say on the client side when the client is not visible within the console and after stopping and starting the smc service, does the status toggle?

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"

It...

It says the symantec service is not running.  If you attempt to start the service, it does not start.

Ok - tried going through the prepping for legacy clients

We are still seeing the same results.

A step by step troubleshooting is required

I think that a step by step troubleshooting is required, we should check in detail why the first deployment fails. It is time to call the technical support.

Giuseppe

Re;

Did you try a restart? it could be a problem of the network/communications.

Re:

We pushed to 35 Sav10 machines yesterday.  6 were successful the first run.  The rest showed up in the console, but they did not have ANY virus definitions, and they were not reporting status.  We then deleted those machines, re-pushed, and then they all showed up as managed, loaded defs, etc.

Restarting does not fix the issue. We opened a ticket w/ Tech Support yesterday...we'll see what happens!
