  • 1.  Odd formatting errors with IE8

    Posted Feb 02, 2010 01:39 PM

I'm noticing some odd behavior when posting new threads (or replies) in the Forums using IE8.  Specifically, the "Body" section looks very odd (in fact it is much worse here when I'm posting a new thread).  In particular, the formatting options are not present and there is an "extra" text box below the main Body section:

This does not occur with Firefox, and I've tried IE8 with Compatibility Mode enabled and disabled, same result.  Also the discussion tags section is odd as well:

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

We haven't had any other reports like this so far Kyle - we're testing IE8 now.

    Thanks!

I have seen strange behavior in the past, but it always seem to clear up after refreshing the browser a few times.
    I only use Firefox here.

For my side no similar issues on IE8 or other browsers like Firefox (my default browser) and Chrome.

    Kyle,
What operating system are you running IE8 on ??

I've upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 32 bit, which runs IE8 natively, and I have no issues at all with working in the Connect forums. I experienced some issues with IE8 and Yahoo webmail during the Win 7 beta and RC releases, but that's all sorted now too.

If you upgraded an existing machine from IE6 or IE7, then perhaps some of your issues are caused by existing browser "Add-ins" that are not fully IE8 compatible. Have you tried disabling existing add-ins and also making sure that your installs of Flash and Shockwave are right up to date?

I'm having other weird problems now too, so it seems likely now that it is just something screwed up with my PC.  I reinstalled IE8 (on XP SP3) and still the same issue.  So don't mind me...

I somehow forgot about the "Reset settings"....that didn't fix it, but it got me looking in the IE options again and I found that the "Internet" zone security settings were all out of whack, such as not allowing ActiveX at all, and disabling script!  Perhaps I am the victim of a poorly tested IE8 GPO we have been working on :)
