OLD issues still lurking around

Hi Admins

Two old Connect issues that will not go away:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/something-wrong-number-posts-displayed

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/unfortunately-fix-causes

Number of posts being displayed keeps going back to 10.

'Bad Request' pops up every 2 to 3 days. Deleting 'www-secure.symantec.com' cookies let me access forums again for a day or two.

Hi Admins

Do we have any hope of getting this resolved?

Number of posts keep on going back to 10. This happens 3-4 times per day (minimum).

'Bad request' more or less every 3rd day.

Marianne,

We have logged this error. The developers are considering some alternate ways to resolve this once and for all.

But, in the spirit of transparaency, like we discussed last week, this isn't on the "urgent" fix list. There will be other things that take priority over fixing this particular issue.

Marianne's picture

Hope these issues are slowly but surely climbing the priority list.......

One issue is not that bad, but the two issues happening all the time are getting quite annoying...

Going from bad to worse....

Have a look at attached screenshot - not even the default of 10 posts being displayed - only 6 posts in the the NetBackup forum list and sort order all wrong - notice how the last post in this list was updated long after the second-last post.

Hi Marianne,

I experience the following annoying issue. Is it the same as yours?

When i refresh https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/backup-and... with F5 i see ZERO post.

90px_Screen Shot 2014-07-30 at 2.24.04 PM.png

Then I need to toggle the selection filter from my groups to something else (appliances or partnernet group), and then back again to "my groups" to see the posts.

Screen Shot 2014-07-30 at 2.24.43 PM.png

I find this happens when i have the latest activity drop down set on "Recent Posts". If i put it on "recent activity" it doesn't happen but then i don't always see new posts. Do you experience this annoyance as well?

Riaan Badenhorst

You need an OpenVision to see the truth about Backups. Restores are a plus. But that's just Semantics ;)

ITs easy :)

...yes, this is happening on my work laptop and home laptop irrespective of browsers...

Oh dear! Just refreshed the page for this forum.

This is what happened: See attachment.

When I select a different number of posts to be displayed, the list is fine again and shows latest activity.

This is like a gremlin in our system! Just FYI, I forwarded to the dev team to take a look, and Kevin may have additional questions for you. Sorry!!!!

Thanks for participating in the community!

To reproduce every time (I think):

Must be logged in?  Not sure.
Enter any forum's "page 1"
Click on any page "number" link at the bottom (I usually picked "2" but I believe any of them will reproduce this issue)
Click on any thread title
Click "Back" button on browser

If you're like me, you're now presented with six links... which appear to be the Top 6 "Most Helpful" threads, if THAT helps.  (I don't know how I notice this stuff either.)

Changing the order dropdown to anything (even "Most Helpful!") and then back to "Recent Posts" will also work around this issue (I think).

Correct, changing any dropdown seems to help, version, language, etc.

Thanks for confirming that I am not the only one!
Felt a bit 'lonely' when nobody replied to my post dated 21 July...
I have also PM'ed Admins with screenshots - no reply.

I always click on the Forum name at the top of the page after I have read on replied to a discussion.
In this example, NetBackup
The result is the screenshot below.

Selecting a different number of posts to be displayed gets the sort order correct and displays the desired amount of posts.
Until I click on Forum name again or refresh...

You're lucky you see posts. If I understand Chris' post he sees only the featured articles like i do.

Admins are very quiet, but sort order seems to be fine this morning?

Hi all,

Thanks for reporting this, and we've had our developers working on it. It looks like we've got a fix, if you could go ahead and test it out. Always good to close your browser and clear cache when testing, just to make sure there's nothing stuck.

Riaan and Chris, if I'm working on a laptop, I'll just see the featured items in a forum where there are a few of them, but then can scroll down and see all of the forum posts below. There's also a down arrow icon by the featured items to hide them. Would you let me know if you're seeing something different, and what browser you're using?

Again, apologies for the ongoing issue with this. It's the 'gremlin issue' in our system that just keeps coming back to visit :(

Best,

Kimberley

Sort order has been fine now for a couple of days, THANKS!

Just the problem with number of posts displayed in Forum not resolved yet.
Number of posts keeps going back to 10....

And I was testing that especially and couldn't get it to be an issue! I know Kevin has said at one time that closing the browser can solve it so maybe I didn't have my browser open long enough. I'll let the dev team know, Marianne. I think it's that you just work too hard and your browser gives up :). We'll let you know if they come across anything that could still be causing the issue.

I've just followed up with our development team, and neither they nor I can reproduce this. Marianne, can you provide the steps you're doing when you encounter this problem, what browser, how long it's been opened, and any other details you can think of so that we can try and reproduce. Is anyone else experience this? If so, would you also mind listing your steps to encounter and we'll see if we can track this down!

Thanks for your patience with this.
