    Posted Dec 28, 2013 05:02 AM

I have recently got this issue where I have a PC insalled with the SEP client, when I login as an Administrator the SEPM creates one seat and when I login with another user it will again create another seat on the SEPM. The SEPM usually creats seats based on the PC and not on the users created on the same PC.

At the end of the days I SEPM gives a warning on the No of Seats Exceeding,

    Are you in User mode?

What version of SEP is this for?

If on RU2 than you need to upgrade to RU3, see here:

Licenses seats are not counted properly in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 12.1 RU2 when using User Mode clients.

    Hi Fraz,

This is not normal behaviour. My suggestion would be to upgrade to at least RU3, but, preferably the latest, RU4.

Cool I have already downloaded the installation file which is approximately 1.26GB. So is it that I just run the installation file on the server?  or I have to Stop these services on the server?

    #  Symantec Embedded Database

    #  Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    #  Symantec Management Client

    #  Symantec Network Access Control

    on this artilce below   http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH211821

did not understand Enable local authentication and Disable "Protect client files and registry keys" Application Control Policy.

Yep, just follow the steps in that article.

Make sure you have a backup and you will need to stop the SEPM service. Than run the setup.exe located in the SEPM folder to do the upgrade.

    Hi,

You need to stop only Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Service.

Enable local authentication and Disable "Protect client files and registry keys" Application Control Policy. --> It's applicable if SEP is on 11.x version but you are already on 12.1 version.

I have around 140 Clients connected..

Eg: My laptop name is "fraz-laptop" and I usually have 3 profiles on my laptop one on Domain and 2 locally on the laptop.

So SEPM has created different seats for diffrerent profiles.

for the Domain User I have User name as RogerD SEPM has one seat as RogerD

then locally have User as Fraz Fernadez SEPM have anothe seat as Fraz Fernandez.

if it's in user mode you might be seeing 3 names, however it should not be consuming 3 licenses. can you confirm it.

export the list of computer status

Are you running the policy in user mode?

For single system it can use the single seat(license) even you are running the multiple profile.

Seat count is based on number of Computers, not on Users or User Mode.

Have you download the report and verify the used seat?

If you are running as computer mode then it can create a single entry in server. Search your laptop entry and remove all the duplicate offline entry.
