Only Inline Updates for SEP 12

Created: 02 May 2013 | 6 comments

On FileConnect when filtering for Endpoint Protection in the Product Description field, only inline updates show up for 12.1.2 and 12.1.2 MP1.  Find it odd that there's no Base Product download for those who need to install SEP 12 from scratch or perhaps it's a typo in the File Type column.

12.1.2 is a full Release Update (RU) and can be installed over any previous version of SEP 12.1 or 11.x.

12.1.2 MP1 is also a full install and can be installed if you are doing a fresh install otherwise you can only upgrade over 12.1.2

At this point 12.1 RU2 would be the base self standing release. 12.1 RU2 MP1 - is a patch that can be applied over the previous installation of 12.1 Ru2 or in case of no previous SEP on the machine - can be installed as well directly.

Older images like 12.1 RTM or 12.1 RU1 can be requested from symantec support if there is any special requirement for these - but as mentioned those are not required to perform new clean installation of SEP environment.

So to confirm...

If I wanted to start from scratch, I could go straight to 12.1.2 MP1 without first installing 12.1.2?

Or, if I have an existing SEPM 11.x server and my goal was to get to 12.1.2 MP1, I'd have to first upgrade to 12.1.2 then 12.1.2 MP1?  If this is the case, bummers that you can't just go directly to the latest release for upgraders.

Thats is correct:

- clean install -> go for the latest one 12.1 RU2 MP1

- if it is stepped upgrade you need to adhere to the upgrade paths - RU2 is main release, and RU2 MP1 is maintanance patch to it

I agree with SebastianZ.

When Installing fresh SEPM, it is not seen what Version of product is installed. It would be considered as a New Installation.

However, the Concept of Base Product comes when you are upgrading / migrating from the Existing version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

For more clear understanding, it is suggested to check the Articles of Fresh Installation / Migration.

Upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2 (RU2)

Upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2100 (RU2 MP1)

It shows the "Upgrade and Migration paths".

You could also check the Articles in reference to the Supported upgrade Paths -

Supported upgrade and migration paths to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

Supported upgrade paths to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2

Hope that helps!!

Incase you are going to migrate the SEPM from 11.x to 12.1 RU2 MP1 then first upgrade the 12.1 RU2 and then 12.1 RU2 MP1.

After upgarde the latest version then upgrade the client direct in 12.1 RU2 MP1.
