  • 1.  Opal hard drives

    Could someone tell me if these are supported in Symantec Endpoint Encryption or not? If so, what is the minumum version needed to be able to encrypt the drives with SEE and manage them from the console? I've talked to support and they are telling me that Opal drives are supported in Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11 and we should upgrade. However, I have seen various documentation regarding 8.2.1 and it sounds like it should support Opal depending on what MP you have. Support also said that we must "turn off" Opal in the computer's bios before installing SEE, but I am being told my the PC manufacturer that Opal cannot be disabled and that it is always on. We are currently running 8.2.1 MP10 and cannot encrypt opal drives with this version. Anyone able to provide some clarity on this? Thanks.

    The OPAL support in v8 was always very minimal and restricted to a selection of Hitachi drives as shown by Sarfaraz's post above.
