Open File Option windows Error 2019 Allocate system nonpaged pool
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 20 comments
After I installed the Open File Option I am getting a windows error that says "The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty. Microsoft says that the Otman4.sys or Otman5.sys driver is outdated. I can not find either driver on my system. I do have the vsp.sys file in my System32/drivers file. How do I correct this problem?

I am using V9.1. I looked up the error in microsoft support document 822219 and it said the cause was VEritas program that uses Otman4 & 5. I am getting another error:Event Type:Error

This is totally hanging up my computer. Can you help?
Hi,
Since you are using Backup Exec 9.1, the issue wouldnt arise because of the Otman driver since it was only installed by the AOF Option of 8.6... Did you have 8.6 installed on this machine earlier?
To take care of the error you are getting in the event viewer, could you copy the catalogs folder in path Programm files> Veritas> Backup Exec > NT > Catalog somewhere else. Stop the Backup Exec Services, rename the catalog folder and then restart the services.
Hope it helps! please keep us updated on the issue.

I have followed your instructions about the catalogue. If it doesn't work I will let you know next Tuesday. I did a clean install of windows xp then Veritas 9.1 on this computer. When I came in this morning the computer was sitting with a blue screen. It seems to be running out of resources. This is one of the errors in the log:

Hi,
Please check out the following document:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/191100
Have you tried recreating the catalogs folder?
Have you had Backup exec 8.x installed on this media server before? If yes, did you also have Advanced open file option installed?
NOTE : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.
No I didn't have V8 installed and I did not have the Open file option until I installed it in V9.1
I don't know if the catalogue correction worked yet. I usually happens around 12pm and I just made the correction at 7:20am.
Hi,
We will wait for you further updates!
Thanks!

It has been 14 days since I reported my problem. Every night my computer crashes and I have no reliable backup. Your responses are not solving my problem.
hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience!
Do you see any active alerts in the Alerts tab?
Do you have Service Pack 1 for Windows 2003 installed? if not, please run the following utility to check if there are any mdac mismatches found. Please let us know what the result is:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...
did the job engine stop during the backup? What all are you backing up? Are you backing up the data on a tape? If yes, perform a backup to a backup to disk to isolate the issue.
* Also ensure that the "display progress indicators for backup jobs" option has not been selected in Tools > Options > Preferences!
* Could you also save the existing catalogs folder elswhere and recreate the catalog folder( which is found in the path: Programme files> veritas > Backup Exec> NT)
Do keep us updated on the issue!

Hi,
Are you by chance running McAfee Virusscan 8i? This will cause this issue unless you apply patch 11, during any high performance activity. Performing a backup is one such activity.
No I am not running mcAfee.
1)I see no active alerts
2)I have SP1 on Windows 2003 and SP2 on the Windows XP backup server.
3)Yes the job engine did stop. I am backing up regular files on the Windows 2003 server as well as server.log, sysvol, address, data, Microsoft exchange mailboxes, public folders and Microsoft information Store.
4)I was backing up to tape have followed your advice to disk. When I set Advanced openfile option is not used to never and set Advanced open file configuration to Automatically select the backup finishes but does not backup up any open files.
Last night I hand a backup job scheduled and the Advanced open file was set for Microsoft volum shadow coy server I got the following error prior to the Error 2019.
Event Type:Warning

5)I set Display progress to off
6)I have already recreated the catalog folder (see prior logs)
The master browser error log you presented above is a Microsoft one, not related to BE.
With regards to your issue, have you installed Service Pack 4a for Veritas? I would suggest trying this.
Yes I have 4a installed. I received another error last night:
