  • 1.  Open New Software is Available dialog box with Command Line

    I would like to find a command line option for Windows to open the "New Software is Available" dialog box.

    When I add a computer to a software delivery policy and check the option to "Prompt user when this policy is available", a notification pops up, but only for a few seconds.  So if my users don't happen to see it in time, they are unable to get to the dialog.

    It would make it easier for my users if I could put a link in their start menu that would call the command line to open the dialog whenever they wanted.

    I know that they can start the install using the "Software Delivery" tab by opening the Agent UI, but the New Software dialog has a lot more streamlined interface.

    I have found the options to open specific agent windows using the "AeXAgentActivate.exe [GUID [parameter]]" command line, but I have not been able to find a GUID or any parameters for the "New Software" dialog.

    Anyone know what options I need to use?

    Perhaps this will help? 

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Plugin Objects\Objects\{B543E46E-2978-4C37-B95D-1F3F578A7E04} = New Advertisement Notification

     

    As I have never run AeXAgentActivate.exe via the command line before, could you please provide us with a working example.

    I'm on 7.5 and although I see that GUID in the registry and can launch other GUIDS with AeXAgentActivate.exe, the specific "New Advertisement Notification" just doesn't work.

     

    Frustrating as I could really use a way for people to know their software portal requests have arrived. Beyond the short display time of the popup from the Altiris agent.

     

    Works fine for displaying agent settings -

    AeXAgentActivate.exe {D0B9F33A-9542-42DB-B6B5-BAC0CCDBC6F1}

     

    Does not work for display new software is available

    AeXAgentActivate.exe {B543E46E-2978-4C37-B95D-1F3F578A7E04}

     

    This Kinda works "AlertTaskAgent.DeferSheet". It throws up the ballon for "new software is available" a few times and ends in an "error activating agent session 2" error.
