OPsCenter Emails - with the report as TEXT in the body?

Created: 07 Feb 2013 • Updated: 16 Feb 2013 | 6 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi everyone, I have OPsCenter 7.5.0.4 and at the moment I am trying to achieve a way of emailing individual failed backups (per client) and have the actual report data in the body of the email, in plan text format. This would be to alert each server owner of their backup failure.

So far the emails have the report as an attachment - I can't figure out how to have the data in the email body. I have an idea to have my backup failures autologged into our incident management system - but this can only accept the data via an email which has the text available.

Any ideas gratefully received :)

Don't use it personally.

A quick glance through the Admin Guide shows the following, not sure if it helps:

■ Reports in the PDF, TSV, XML, or CSV formats are sent as email attachments.
■ A report in the HTML format is sent as an inline message in email.

Andy, thank you for this!

I will try this to see if the html is acceptable for my other system.

What do you use then? Or you don't use the opscenter at all?? Is there a better way I might achieve this.....

Does this look right? If so it comes form NetBackup itself.

This is set through Host Properties > Clients > <CLIENT NAME> > General.

Subject: Backup on MEDIA_SERVER - 1001

Backup on client MEDIA_SERVER for user root by server l5bkptst01.hewitt.com failed.

Status = discovery document error.

Policy = VM_98_LAN_LAB

Schedule = Daily_Diff

File list

---------

vmware:/?filter= Cluster Equal "SandBox" AND VMVersion GreaterEqual "7" OR Cluster Equal "E%2BESXI" AND VMVersion GreaterEqual "7"

The above comments are not to be construed as an official stance of the company I work for; hell half the time they are not even an official stance for me.

Always wanted to use OC but never got 'round to it - unfortunately our NB environment is now so small & insignificant that I can check & resolve every issue we get before I've had my first cup of coffee.

We did initially play with NetBackups e-mail notifications of failed jobs directly (EDIT: possibly what Wolfsbane has just posted above!) but that was more trouble than it was worth.

From everything I've read OC *is* really good so it's a shame I never got to use it .....

I'm sure we'll get some input from others who *do* use it or other means of notification, in the mean-time you could try the html format & see if it matches your needs?

Hi, thanks for your responses. Netbackup=notmyareaofexpertise I will try what you have advised above, I am really grateful.

In my tinkerings this morning I've discovered a report in the opscenter which appears to have what I require, 'all failed backups' but it doesn't seem to be customisable to only show one client......  :)

Hi, I'm going to close this thread as I had opened another in the OPscenter forum:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/emailing-bu-failures-body-email-text

and will continue to progress on that one. Essentially it looks like I will be using the 'alerts' as the answer.

Many Thanks to everyone
