Hi JD,

Thanks for the response.

No file system is full in this context.

Any other clue?

Thanks

does oracle have the correct parameters?

Have you ever backed up this database before?

This looks like an archive.

Is the database stuck in hotbackup mode?

Has the DBA ever linked the database to the libobk* library?

I think so because the backup has been working for some time now until this weekend.

until this weekend.

famous words that are worth repeating.

So, what changed on the weekend?

Hi Bob,

Thats the question I have been trying to answer myself because the DBAs are saying nothing has changed.

On the Master and the media server nothing has changed either, though there happen to be a down drive, could this be the cause? I dont think so.

I really need a solution to this.

Stumpr2's picture

could it be name resolution? please read this technote.
at least this technote has the error you are experiencing.

Getting status code 6 when backing up the Oracle database, the client name specified is the virtual server name and uses the NetBackup for Oracle Server database extension

VERITAS ain't it the truth?

Hi Rilwan,
I happen to use rman backups at my company too and have seen Status Code 6 on jobs from time to time.

From what I gather from the DBA, sometimes rman will kick off the job even when it has nothing to backup (usually with differential jobs I think). Is it possible that there was little/no data to backup on the day in question?

Just wondering ...

Hi David,

The backup in question is a full backup.

From the log, it has backed up the datafiles, it skipped some archive log files since they have been backed up before. while backing up some other archive log files it came up with the rman error has pasted above.

Hi Bob,

The /usr/openv/netbackup/db/altnames/No.Restrictions file already exist on the master server.

I am wondering if I should tell the DBAs to restart the instance. Will this work?

I think that is what James Dunn was trying to suggest when he asked if it was stuck in backupmode ...etc
