This issue has been solved. See solution.

hello

i have installed netbackup 7 and oracle 10 version on two VM's for testing purpose

i have some questions and clarifications that i would like to ask for :

1-i have installed symantec client by pushing the agent to the oracle server ,my question is from where to instal the oracle agent ?

2-on the oracle server if i browse the symantec backup and restore i can see the oracle ,is that means that the oracle agent is installed

3-from netbackup console where could i see the oracle server and how to add it ?

4-how can i link the symantec nbu with RMAN and does that is necessary in case RMAN is not configured from begining

check screen shots maybe it will clarify my questions more

Hi,

1) Install NBU client software on the Oracle server and install the NetBackup for Oracle license key on the master/media server.

2) I think Yes.

3) Expand host properties and click on Clients. If your oracle server is not displayed there you can configure it from Actions --> configure client. Browse and select the oracle server on which you installed the NBU client.

NetBackup for Oracle Administrator's guide will answer all your queries much better.

My 2c:

1) I agree with Kiran.

2) Most definitely YES - all agents are included in the NBU Client (and server) software.

3) You add a client on the master server by creating a backup policy for it.

4) No linking - only requirement is to restart Oracle services on the client after NBU installation.

You will find confirmation of all of the answers in the NBU for Oracle Admin Guide as per the manual posted by Kiran.

hello

thank you both for your reply

please Marianne now i'm confused on point number 4 , i have read that i need to link RMAN with NBUO to get oracle DB backup and restored and now you are telling no linking, please clarify when do i link between RMAN and oracle and when not ?

Regards

Oracle on Unix requires linking, which is a symbolic link of the NBU library to Oracle libobk.

NBU for Windows installs the database plugin as a .dll. The only requirement for Oracle on Windows to use the NBU library is a restart of Oracle Services so that RMAN will use the NBU library/dll.

Extract from NBU for Oracle manual:

\Program Files\Common Files\VeritasShared\orasbt.dll : Provides functions that are callable by RMAN.

p. 31 & 32 of the manual tells you to ensure that NBU client (or server) software is installed on the Oracle server, to add the license key on the master and to restart Oracle services on the Oracle server.
