As per System Requirement Guide minimum system requirements for Oracle machine for Symantec Data Loss Prevention are

  • 6 GB of RAM
  • 6 GB of swap space (equal to RAM)
  • 500 GB – 1 TB of disk space for the Enforce database

These are minimum requirements. I wanted to know whats recommended for smooth operation. I know more is better and it depends the other factors like how big envoirnment is , frequency of incidents, length of time we want to store evidence etc but can anyone give me a good number for recommended requirement based on their experience. I am deploying DLP for large telco having 1000+ endpoints and they want to retain evidence for 18 months.

on a recent 3 tier install with around 10,000 endpoints with discover, i used the following resources for the Oracle. Yes this is overkill but this is something that can scale to what they need as they are in the process of buying/merging more companies and expect to exceed 35,000 endpoints. reasoning for the over kill as this is a spare server they had and is on maintence for 3 yrs. they had other but 24 cores and 32 gigs of memory was way over kill.

Are you considering doing this in vmware or physical box,

2- quad core xeons

16 gigs of memory

84 gig OS partition

600 gig  Databse partition (raid 1)

gigabit nic
