  • 1.  Orphaned Software Request Policies - Portal Question 6.x

    Posted Dec 13, 2011 11:29 AM

    Good afternoon,

I've been reviewing the policies on our Back Office Notification Servers and after running a Policy Report I found that a majority of the results seem to be Portal based Software Requests linked to specific workstations. While I would expect to see some of these, I am surprised to see 1300 of them on one of the NS's. Is there a known issue where these can get stuck or orphaned in the database?

I know that we see a lot of Warnings in the logs pertaining to these different policies. If any one knowsof this issue and has any advice on how to deal with them that would be great. There is no doubt that our org uses Portal a lot but having 1300 active policies related to portal request is way to many.

Here is an example of a couple of records.

    Altiris Software Delivery Solution Software Request - Install/Upgrade 12/13/2011 8:51 SWRCollection_Machine_Name
    Altiris Software Delivery Solution Software Request - Install/Upgrade Internet Explorer 7 12/8/2011 11:14 SWRCollection_Machine_Name

Let me know if you have any thoughts.

    Thank you

    Derek

The problem is that the software portal requests aren't always purged.  Check out this link:

Software Portal Tasks in "Requested" status are not purged according to Data Purging Settings
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH22229

After setting this up we're able to keep our portal requests cleaned up.  Let me know if you need more info on this.  We're dynamically purging all portal requests older than 30 days using info from that link and a scheduled task in windows.
