Created: 06 Dec 2012 | 2 comments
Hi All,
Already read this article before : http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/be-aware-sy...
On that article said that "On July 4, 2012, SAV 10.x and SCS 3.x reached End of Support Life (EOSL). This includes ALL maintenance packs and patches"
Does it mean that site didn't provide the new definition again for this SAV Version? if it's true, i have several question about this. for exam :
1. we still seeing several server already update with the latest definition?
Regards,
Wandi Budiman

Hello,
The Virus definitions are still available on the Symantec site for Manual download.
However, as far as I understand these definitions are not available after the EOSL date from Symantec Liveupdate server unless you make a request for the definitions extension.
Have you applied for Extension to the virus definitions?
How to request a virus definition extension for Symantec AntiVirus 10.x Corporate Edition beyond its End-of-Support-Life date
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO73168
Extensions will be available for 1, 3, 6, 9, or 12 month terms starting at the EOSL date.
However, Let me come back to you with a confirmation...!!
EDIT: I was correct above and There is no confirmed date set on when would the SAV 10 definitions would stop getting created. If the Extension is purchased for the term of 12 months term then it is assured you to receive the definitions for 12 months.
Thanks In Advance.

Hi Wandi,
Do be aware that any updates currently coming down are untested on SAV, can be discontinued at any time, and won't work with older SAV clients or servers. Also that SAV certified definitions only come out once per day instead of SEP's two or three times per day, and only offer traditional signature-based AV protection (no IPS, PTP, firewall, etc).
Definitely use this time to migrate to SEP's better protection rather than entrust your enterprise's security to an unsupported product like SAV! &: )
With thanks and best regards,
Mick
