    Hi,

We use all the default settings for the SEP installation.

One of our server is not getting virus definitons as the C drive is low on disk space.

As Minimum space required for the AV definitions to get updated is 600MB+,can we use the other drives (like E or D ) which has more space for the definitions to kick in ?

how to proceed on this ?

Definitions are hard-coded to only use C:, this cannot be changed. 12.1 only keeps 1 set of virus defs (compared to 11.x where 3 were kept)

Make sure only one revision is being kept, see here:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH141811

Have you tried running the cleanup utility to free up space?

    Hello,

What version of SEP 12.1 are you running?

Unfortunately, it cannot be changed. I would suggest you to configure the Disk space Management for Virus Def.

To configure the disk space used for LiveUpdate downloads

    1. In the console, click Admin.

    2. Click Servers and select the site that you want to configure.

    3. Under Tasks, click Edit Site Properties, and then click LiveUpdate.

    4. Under Disk Space Management for Downloads, type the number of content downloads that you want to store.

    5. If you want to reduce the amount of disk space used, uncheck the Store client packages unzipped to provide better network performance for upgrades option. Note: Disabling this option also disables the ability of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to construct deltas between content revisions and may adversely affect network performance for updates.

    6. Click OK.

    Check these Articles:

Disk Space Management procedures for the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH96214

Drive Space used by Virus Definitions Updates

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH141811

    Hope that helps!!

The thing is total size on C drive is 13GB and most of them are occupied by system files.

    Attached the screenshot for reference.

How does the clients defintions update process work ?

Is there any other workaround like

    1) Uninstall the SEP and reinstall it onto different drive ?

2)if we do that ,will the definitions be udpated automatically or we need to do it manually ?

    Thanks

You can't change Virus defination location in sepm 12.1,

But you can try Elisha comments below IDEA

You can install SEP to a different drive however, defs will remain on C: Its by design and cannot be changed

What files from Symantec Endpoint Protection installation are installed to the C:\ Drive, when the application is installed to a different drive

Thanks you very much guys ... what I am thinking is 1)uninstall SEP from c drive ( this will free up around 1GB space ) 2)install SEP on a different drive In this way the definitions will get updated for the client. We are trying to free up some space ... but as a last resort can I use the above method. Is it a good way to do it in this way .. will this work, will have any issues in the future .

Generally how much space does the SEP Client 12.1 occupy ?

I usually see with the install directory and defs, it's roughly 1.2GB

    Thanks _Brian.

If we install SEP on to E drive ( other than OS drive) ,we will be able to manage the client from SEPM and will take the updates automatically based on the heartbeat interval ..right ?

Will it have any implications on other servers ?

Yes, should be fine by doing that.

    It shouldn't, no.
