  • 1.  Out of Hours scan options ??

    Posted Aug 16, 2011 02:53 PM

Was wondering what others were doing to run a weekly scan out of hours and have their machines shutdown once complete.

As companies try to lower their carbon footprints as well as engery expenses, I was suprised to see that is not an added feature in 12.1. (assuming I haven't overlooked a setting) Afterall, there are other a/v solutions that have this option.

If it definitely isn't an option, what reasons would there be to not include this? Maybe even as an option to only scan when the computer is being 'shut down' and not rebooted?

I've searched and see that some have indicated altiris can already do this, but I am having difficulties finding any links, reading material, to get this setup.

Very interested in not having the users complain about bogged down systems so it would be nice to roll this out, however, not very feesable if:

-full scan has to be run while user's are logged in

-computers have to stay on weeknight / weekend to run out of hour scans

Any info, advice, links much appreciated.
    Thanks

I checked that out, but would prefer not to add additional software and addtional expenses in order to do the following:
    1.wake on lan
    2. run a scan
    3.shutdown the machine after scan.

EIPower seems to do pretty much the same thing that group policy settings, etc can do with a few less clicks. Although it would be great for management with the amount of graphs and pie charts it can produce.

Just looking for simplicity with an exisiting network using altiris and sepm.

Looking for a nicer way than to just guess a time after the scan starts and send a batch job to each machine with shutdown command.
Very curious why autoshutdown has not been a feature and what the complications would be?? Any ideas?
