  • 1.  Outlook pst corrupted after removing folder from NetShare

I'm running PGP Desktop 10.1.1. Today I removed the folder containing my Outlook data files, and Outlook must have had the files open because they were reported as skipped during the removal. After the removal was complete I tried to remove the folder again and it said I am not the owner of the folder. I assume the files are still encrypted? I tried renaming copies of the files to .pgp and PGP Desktop found no PGP information in the files.

When files are moved out of a NetShare protected folder, the files remain encrypted.

I was removing the folder from NetShare which was decrypting the contents but there were two pst files it could not access. I copied the two files to a separate folder that was empty and added the folder to NetShare. It reported one of the files was already encrypted and was skipped, and the other encrypted, but of course when I removed that folder from NetShare to decrypt the contents, the file was still unreadable. Do you know of a way to access the file again or does it sound like it was somehow corrupted?

Encrypting the new folder would seem unlikely to be of help, because it would use a different symmetric key for the encryption than the first NetShare protected folder used.  The only thought I have at the moment for this, would be to try using a non-encrypted folder for your email files, place the two probablematic files in it, and then try accessing these two files as you would any others with your email client.

It appears the pst file was corrupted. I had two other files in different folders that were skipped, and adding and removing their folders from Netshare reported the file was already encrypted and skipped. I had a backup a few days old I restored. Thank you for you help.
