  • 1.  Outlook Scanner vs POP3/SMTP Scanner

    Hi,

    I understand from the subject as Outlook Scanner (OS) scan the entire mails while or after its arrival, whereas the POP3/SMTP scanner scans its port which is configured (default 110 and 25).

    1. Do I need both? especially the latter, planning to disable the POP3/SMTP scanner - as I use ISP based POP3 mail. While roaming (outside country), I can receive mails but unable to send. while sending mail, it simply stay in outbox with additional communication error. My ISP claiming it is because of security program's port scanning. 

    2. In SEP Client - Internet and Email Protect, under connection settings found incoming POP3 110 and outgoing SMTP 25. How can I add here additional port for mails like 3535, 80, 465 etc.

    Please advise - my aim is to have sucessful send/receive mails while roaming. 

    SEP 12 client unmanaged.

    If your email client is not outlook then you don't need that scanner Those are the default for pop3pop3/smtp

    mail client is outlook, do I need both(outlook autoprotect and pop/smtp scan)? how to add additional mail ports?

    Enable only Outlook Autoprotect, It will scan your email attachments when they arrive. 

    That should protect you, I dont see any need for POP3 here.

    You only need outlook.

    There is no option to configure extra ports. It's what you seeis what you get. This scanning functionality in SEP is limited.

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

    Double click on the Symantec shield icon on the taskbar. You can also access the client interface from the Start Menu: Start > All Programs > Symantec Endpoint Protection.

    Click on the Options button next to Network Threat Protection.
    Select 'Configure Firewall Rules'.

    By default there are five rules. You can add your own customized rules via the 'Add Rule' button. Unlike managed clients, there is no rule creation wizard. Instead, a pop-up appears and allows you to configure a blank rule.

    To add a new Rule:

    There are five tabs in the New Rule menu.

    • General
    • Hosts
    • Ports and Protocols
    • Applications
    • Scheduling
