The outlook is version 2007.  I have had to disable scanning of attachments on this unit.  This unit is 6 months old, running Win 7 x64.  It is slow on Office documents and pdf file.  The user says every file type but I only verified worod, excel and pdf files.

If the attachments are saving to the server or locally everything is normal.  Saving and opening times are normal.

Only opening within outlook it takes a long time.  Sometimes you think it is not doing anything, and clicking it again just makes it worse.

It makes me nervous to leave this unit not scanning attachments.  Once it was disabled all was normal.  Enabling scan again goes back to very slow to open.

    What can be causing this?

    Thanks

Test on a machine with the email scanning disabled. Try sending an Eicar file on that. See if the user can access the file.

If it is a single machine, and you have confirmed that it functions properly after disabling SEP, try a re-install.

Note that e-mail scanning is only an added feature in SEP. There are separate products for this functionality.

Say, you receive an infection thru mail. if it is scanned by Symantec, it will be detected. If you disable the e-mail auto-protect, the file will not be scanned when you open the mail, but it will be scanned and detected when the file is downloaded to you hdd. So Symantec will protect you if it has the right signatures.

    HI,

Does the email protection really required?

You can try to open attachment after removing the component.

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Program -> select Endpoint Protection -> Click on change option -> Next -> Modify -> remove tick from email protection If selected anywhere.

Very simple.  I figured I would need to do a complete push reinstall from server but your method worked perfect.  First I re-enabled it through my method, which was to open outlook > Tools > Trust Center > Add ins >  select Exchange server extenstion > click Go and re-check Symantec scanning.  I then did your procedure. Then I double checked My procedure to be sure yours actually removed it from the list.  Files opened normal speed.  Re-did your procedure to add Outlook scanning feature.  Again I double checked through my method that it did in fact install and was enabled.  Tested a few attachments and all remained normal.

    Thank you,

    Craig
