What product do you have use ?

If you have asking for SEP releated .

Yes, if you are running the SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition, then there would be no virus definitions update issues.

When the license goes out of compliance the Symantec Endpoint Protection product goes into enforcement mode. There are two types of enforcement

    1) Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition

    • Content update downloads stop for both server and clients. In Small Business Edition it's 1:1 mapping with CAT server.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

    2) Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition

    • Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

if i am going to purchase 500 license and after after couple of months if our head count is increased to 800 seats , will my remaining 300 machines willl take updates without any issue ?? if that is the case any customer can buy 500 or 1000 seats and they can deploy more that what they purchased ?? if update is going to happen even if we over deploy , what would be the difference between over deployed and not over deployed.

If Enterprise, your clients will still AV updates, however, download content updates wills top.

If SBE, all content updates will stop.

You definitely want to make sure you have enough licenses to cover.

AV provides antivirus signatures, while download content is used for Download Insight (reputation database)

    Hi,

Over deployed clients will take updates if it's Enterprise Edition. If you did not activate license for over deployed clients it may lead to compliance issue.

Over deployed clients will not take updates if it's Small Business Edition.
