  • 1.  Overly-Aggressive LiveUpdate for Mac

My employer provides SEP for home use in lieu of the consumer-grade Norton anti-virus products. Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.4 on the Apple operating system) last Saturday I find that LiveUpdate attempts to download content 4 or 5 times a day. Sometimes it is successful and sometimes I must manually update the data files.

The SEP version for Mac I'm using is 2.1.1 (5)

Anyone have an idea why the SEP is so restless?

Lee, on the consumer side of the forums, recommended this community although I can't find the appropriate product in the drop-down box below.

    Thanks.

I found interesting information, and apparently the solution to my problem, by googling the issue. This research directed me back to another area of this forum. https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-mac-live-update-bouncing-dock

Version 2.1.1?  The only versions of SEP for Mac are 11.0.6000 and 11.0.6100.  From where are you getting the version number?

Was everything working well prior to the upgrade?  I suppose it is possible that the OS upgrade did something to some of the kernel-level files.  What you're describing isn't usual behaviour unless it's managed and it's been given a schedule that's (e.g.) every 4 hours.

I would probably consider removing and reinstalling SEP if the operating system upgrade was the trigger for this issue.

If you enter sudo symsched -l (that's a lower case L) into a terminal window, what's shown there?  What about just symsched -l?

Edited to say: Oh, you say you resolved the issue.  Never mind! :D
