    Hi,

I got a NS 7.1 environment. I don't think this is possible, but I would like to put this out there to get feedback. Is there a easy way to only replicate out a single application to a PS without replicating other items in the Software Delivery catalog after the initial site server setup? I have a site that has severe bandwidth constraints and it would tap the circuit if everything replicated out, even if done on off hours or over a weekend. One thought I had was install the PS and then shut off the agent before replication began and then go through the software delivery catalog and deselect the items I don't want replicated from that new PS. That as you might imagine could be time consuming if you do it for 200 items in a Software Delivery catalog. Maybe I am not approaching this the correct way, but there should be a way to do this so you keep unwanted apps off the PS.

    Thoughts/Feedback appreciated.

Unfortunatelly there is no easy way, if at least one PS exists in your environment NS will try offloading itself if possible and redirect all the clients to PS, that's why PS has to have the same packages as NS server and PS will try to achieve that. There is no filtering.

If all packages have the All Package Servers assingment, then the new PS will get all the packages. The best way to do this is to copy the Packages directory from a PS that has all the packages, remove the xml files, install the psa on the new ps and then stop the sma service, replace its Packages folder with the one you copied, start the sma service, and then run the ps event scheduled task (full name elludes me at the mo) on the smp say 30 mins later ir you can wait until it is triggered sonetime in the early hours.

We have many remote sites with slow links and we ship an usb drive to get the site server up to speed then we manage delta replication with a QOS rule in Windows 2008 to prevent it from using all the bandwidth.  QOS in windows is better than bandwidth throttle from symantec because we can assign different speed for different subnets so we can let the server go full speed on his local subnet.
