Deployment Solution

I have images that keep resetting to 0 KB.  (Thankfully we have a backup server.)  I found this article describing the problem and a resolution:

However, I specifically had to install the package server to get images to show up in SMC and the ResoureImportTool to work.  References:

So... what do I do?  If I remove the package server, I can't add images.  If I keep it, I have to restore from backup every two or 3 weeks.

Yes, Having a package service installed on the NS is not a good idea.

I dont quiet get the issue of the other threads.

- I dont have a package server installed on the NS

- I can create images and see them in the console

   If your client is connected to another task/package/deployment site server (you always need all three - just not on the NS), you have to import the image to the NS before.

- I can use the resource import tool without any issue

Uninstall package service and repair your SMP.  Ensure you have a site server with deployment task handlers installed to serve your clients, since they shouldn't be using the NS itself.  There was never any reason to install the package service on the NS because the NS already functions as a package server -- and the same point can be made for the deployment task handlers.

You should be in a functional state after uninstalling package service and repairing the Symantec Management Platform using SIM.

Well, mclemson, your suggestion seems to be working.  I'll have to test other functionality eventually, but for now I can at least deploy images.  Thank you for your response.

I'll have to dig up good documentation on what the package service does as well.  :|  Summer is getting too close to being over!  :)
