  • 1.  Package Server not recieving packages.

    Posted Mar 07, 2011 08:40 AM

I have installed package Service on around 30 machines. Out of these 20 have downloaded the packeages while others are not recieving the packages. They are showiing all the packages as pending. On the client side I can see the Package Server tab but it shows all the stats as 0. These machines have already recieved the plug-ins directly from the NS. Is there a way to forcefully push the packages?  Is there a resolution to this.? Kindly suggest......

To clarify, you needed to have 30 package distribution points in your environment, so you selected 30 servers to function as package distributors, and then rolled out the package service to them.  However, what you're seeing is that 10 of these 30 have not downloaded the packages?

If so, and if you look on one of the ten that is misbehaving, what do you see in the logs?  You may need to register AeXAgentDiagnostics.dll in order to have access to full client logs on the site server running package services.

What should I look for in the log files? Would there be any kind of errors etc??

On the package server, click 'Refresh Packages' and then look in the Log Viewer in the Diagnostics tool for details.  You should find Errors or Warnings if there's an issue.  You could also use Errors or Warnings to look for previous issues without forcing a refresh of packages.

Have you confirmed that the Package Agent is installed by right-clicking on the Symantec Management Agent and going to About Symantec Management Agent.. and then scrolling in the box for the Package Agent?

The Package Server is not able to download any packages from the Notification Server. We are recieving the below error in the log files related to the package service.

There is no communication problem as the client with the package server has already recieved the other plug-ins from the NS. This is the error that we have found.

I am attaching the whole log file for your review. In our environment we have migrated the clients from NS 6 to NS 7 by upgrading the base agents.

Is the agent behind a proxy server?

Are you running the latest release of NS7, called SMP 7.0 SP5?

Can you post the agent versions of the problem client, including plug-ins (find it by right-clicking the agent and choosing About..)?

Do they function properly besides the package server issue?  That is, can you run a task or apply a policy and it will succeed in running the task?

Additionally, this section in the logs:

    Seems to match these KBs:

That particular issue shouldn't be seen if you are running the current release, SMP 7.0 SP5.  Are you running this version?
