  • 1.  Package server not updating on ITMS 8.0 server

    Just updated from 7.6 HF7 to 8.0 three days ago (on 4/10/2016).  I've gone through the policies to get the rest of the server agents updated, but there's one that seems to refuse to update.  

    This is on a 2k8 R2 x64 box.  We have just one server for our campus - 3500 endpoints are managed, so there's no need for more.

     

    I've sent (& resent & resent & resent) inventory and requested new configurations form the agent on the server.  I've gone through the policies, and it would seem that the policy for installing the agents are all turned on.  Any reason why this one agent is refusing to update?

    Break the problem down. Is the agent showing the upgrade policy? Is it running & failing? If not, is the Target of the upgrade policy showing the Server? If not look at the Filter it should be in, look at its definition (if it's read only you can right-click and view XML). Maybe it's missing a new pre-requisite like an update .NET framework.

    Thanks for the reply.  I've gone through all the policies and have tried to get it to update, but I'm not sure what's wrong.  I looked up the Extract SSL Certificate (x64) policy, and decided it needed to be enabled (my ITMS server was the only target).  This then brought my server into the Deployment Package Server Components policy, and I've gotten that installed.  This installed a different agent, though - it's Deployment Package Server Components.  I don't know which policy even controls Package Server as listed in the screenshot above.  Do you know which policy controls this?  I would've presumed that the Deployment Package Server Components policy would take care of it.

    .net 4.5.1 is installed (this was done prior to upgrade).

     

    **EDIT: FOUND THE PROBLEM POLICY!  It wasn't with the other agents (Symantec, please make this easier to find!).  Go to Settings > Notification Server > Site Server Settings, then Settings, Package Service > Advanced > Windows in the left pane and enable the Windows Package Server Agent Upgrade.  To expedite its push, I did a inventory & config update request for the server, and the package went right out.

    Maybe you need this policy?

    SMP Console ⇒ "Settings" ⇒ "Notification Server" ⇒ "Site Server Settings"

    Also make sure that this Package Server is included in "Windows Computers Requiring Altiris Package Server Agent Upgrade" filter.

    --// If it this there and PS Agent upgrade rollout policy was already enabled, but PS is still isn't upgraded, then:

    Open "Resource Manager" of this Package Server machine via mouse right click menu on PS machine name in SMP Console ⇒ "View" ⇒ "Events" ⇒ expand "Computer Events" and check there "AeX SWD" data for PS Agent upgrade package download/execution.
